Prof. Dr. Szalai Zsuzsanna
Main interest
is atopic dermatitis, haemangioma, vascular malformations, genetic diseases, genodermatoses, keratin disorders, viral infections, severe pediatric disorders.
She is especially designed for training medical staff and parents-patients for Atopy School. She actively took part in creating the former ESPD website (www.espd.info), training of pediatricians, pediatric dermatologists, nurses, organising international and Hungarian congresses, organising postgraduate courses.
Education
Graduated in Medical Faculty of Semmelweis University Budapest (1985); qualified in Pediatrics (1992) Qualified in Dermatology (993/1995) at Semmelweis University Budapest. Started to work at Heim Pál Children’s National Institute Budapest (1994) and Chief of the department from 2000.
PhD thesis: Scolarship in Genetics were performed in 1994 Hungarian Genetic Institute; the PhD program followed at the Semmeilweis University Human Genetic Research lab. The main topic was the Keratin 9 mutations in keratinocyte disorders.
Habilitation thesis: Finishing the habilitation thesis, in 2013 entitled “Treatment of hemangioma-vascular malformations in pediatric age – importance of beta-blocker treatment”, her habiliation process had been completed in 2013. The first use of beta blockers for hemangiomas in Hungary started in 2008 in HPC Hospital. Honorary professorship had been given in 2015 by the University of Szeged.
Last publications:
The hungarian textbook of Pediatric Dermatology had been published in 2019.
Memberships: Honorary member of ESPD, secretary from 2005-2007; president from 2007-2009. Board member of the Hungarian Society of Dermatology; Head of the Workshop for Pediatric Dermatology of Hungarian Society of Dermatology; Member of Editorial Board of different Journals, former member of Clinical Investigator Board, and scientific board of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital; Member of EADV, ISAD, ETFAD EDF. former Member of the Scientific Board of the ESPD.
At present, member of Educational Board of ISPD.
Honours, professional activity: She had been awarded the Kaposi medal in 2009. Honorary member of the Serbian Society for Dermatovenerology. She organised the ESPD Congress Budapest in 2005. She is organising the Advanced Fostering Courses for PD. She takes part in studies, guidelines, book chapters, organising the Hungarian PD congresses.
